Can A Mini Stroke Be A Symptom Of A Transient Ischemic Attack?
I am a 68 yr old woman with a number of issues. I had a mini stroke 5 yrs ago. For the past month I've been trying to piece together the past year. Some tests and biopsies were done last year in May and July, but I thought it was Feb and March of this year. Could I possibly had a TIA?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A stroke can't be a transient ischemic attack. A transient ischemic attack means that the symptoms have disappeared completely inside 24 hours and there is no stroke on brain imaging. So if you were told you had a stroke, then it is not something which has spontaneously improved inside 24 hours I assume, the symptoms must have lasted longer (as the fact you do not have a complete recollection suggests) and there must have been a lesion on brain imaging. Hard to say more since you do not provide any information, but certainly doesn't seem to have been a TIA.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
