Can A Persistent Sharp Abdominal Pain Be Treated?

I have been having a distended abdomen off and on for a year now. I thought it was just because of what I was eating but I realized it didn t correlate with my eating. I had a kidney infection last year during the summer and I have been prone to UTI s for a while. Just this past week, my left side started to hurt. The sharp pain went away but it is cramping in my upper left quadrant and my left side. Yesterday in the evening, my right flank developed a sharp pain. I noticed just now there is a small bruise on my right side, not recalling any trauma that could have occurred from it. I do not have a fever. Any thoughts of what could be going on? I don t want to go to the doctors quite yet, I feel like my symptoms aren t severe enough but I m a little worried.

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Although the symptoms are not severe as per your history , the presence of distension of abdomen for about a year, pains as described, Recurrent UTIs, past history of Kidney infection and all indicate that you need the following:
A proper clinical evaluation, examination by a Doctor to get a clinical evaluation so that proper investigations can be carried.
Contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen.
Colonoscopy and biopsy.
Tests of stool for three days.
Tests of blood for CBC, Kidney and liver functions.
Urine: Routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity.
All these will lead to a proper diagnosis so that a proper treatment of each problems can be done to get a permanent relief.
