Hi, I have just learned that my cousin, 52, has been diagnozied with early diabetis. He has been leading a most healty life style with regular excersising and no bad habits like alcohol or smoking. Might have been exposed to a certain degree of stress generated by his professional life. A few weeks ago he was down with an unfection that revealed itself in a form of herpes that expanded on his head and then on eyelids. He was injected some glucose as part of a system to fight the herpes. He was then told he had his blood sugar at 25 instead of a max 6. HE had never had any complaints of his general health state. Can you please advise whether this may be a temporary rise in blood sugar rate or he should consider himself as a diabetic from now on? Thanks a lot.
Dear madam i can understand your concern. relax madam there is nothing to feel bad about. During some viral infection like herpes there will be transient increase of blood sugars. in some cases this will regularised after recovery of infection. i suggest you to keep a close follow up by monitoring blood sugars until infection settles. take a divise of treating doctor and go for test like Hba1c which will differentiate from long term hyperglycemia from short term hyperglycaemia. Relax he will recover soon. Hope I was able to help you. If you have any further question feel free to write me back. I will be happy to help. Take care. Best Regards.
