Can a parent get a Titer Test before ever vaccinating their child? Some parents are open to vaccinating their child, but don t want adjuvants used in the vaccine. Can a titer test tell the parent if the child is able to handle the vaccine without adjuvants?

The answer to your first question is yes. You can ask for a blood specimen be taken from your child before he/she receives a vaccine. However, what would you learn? Having received no vaccine, you would expect the titer to be zero.

The answer to the second question is no. The titer test is a measure of immunity. The higher the titer the better the patient will be protected against the infection. For example, a titer of 1:64 is more protective than 1:4.

Adjuvants (from the Latin "to help") are materials that are included in a vaccine to improve the immune response. Aluminum salts are the most commonly used adjuvants. They have been used in vaccines for over 80 years. The benefits of adjuvants far outweigh any potential risks.
