Can Alcohol Consumption And Smoking Cause Side Effects During Pregnancy?

I m 16 weeks pregnant. I drank quite heavily in the first-second month when I didn t know. I had normal blood work and normal ultrasound at both 11 and 13 weeks. After, I decided on getting an abortion so I drank one to two beers every 2 weeks up to week 15 when I had one night of drinking 4+. I decided to keep the baby and have since quite drinking and smoking. I haven t had another ultrasound since my (perfectly) healthy one at week 13. I m worried about the damages a couple beers and one night have done since then. I m a healthy 21 year old with no medical conditions.

Hi. No doctor could ever say if that amount of liquor and smoke consumption actually affected your baby or not. But yes Alcohol and Smoking have some serious side effects on the growth of the baby. Its called as Fetal alcohol syndrome. I really don't want to scare you but can't assure you at the same time. Where as smoking can cause a restriction in the growth of the featus.
I want you to know that Alcohol has is worst effect on the baby from the 10th to 20th weeks of gestation.
