Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was prescribed amoxicillin 10 mg 3 times a day for a chest infection. I have only had 4 doses and have very slight bleeding . I stopped having periods 7 months ago and have done a menapause test kit which showed positive . I only found reference to blood in urine as a side affect of this medication , I would be grateful for advice
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query. Post menopausal bleeding is not a recognised side effect of Amoxicillin. Amoxicillin can rarely cause a decrease in platelet count and abnormal liver function tests. These may be a cause of the vaginal bleed. A platelet count and liver function test would help in finding out if either is the cause. If these tests are normal, I think you should see a gynecologist and be investigated for the post menopausal bleeding. If you have further queries, I shall be happy to answer. Take Care Dr Noble Zachariah
