Can Any Type Meat Cause Gag Reflux After Metal Removal Surgery?
My father is receiving R-CHOP and interthecal methotrexate chemo for his B-Cell NHL, he recently also was hit with a pretty severe staph infection. Which was addressed with surgery and removal of the metal hardware in his arm. One of his biggest side effects is this gag-reflex that comes on with dinner, and especially with any type of meat. Is this normal? WHat causes this?? Thank you
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I noted the history about your father having gag reflex to any sort of meat after the staph infection removal of the metal hardware in his hand and he is under intra-thecal Methotrexate treatment. The gag reflex occurring after a certain treatment or surgery is not known to occur.
It is possible that he has developed this due to intolerance to meat or the ingredients used in preparation. Also needed is an opinion of an ENT Surgeon and Neurologist for getting a possible local or neurological cause to be excluded.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
