Can Asbestos Exposure Causes Emphysematous And Calcification Of Lungs?

What does 'there are emphysematous changes in the underlying lung, which appear cystic at both bases. There is also pleural calcification overlying the lUL which would be in keeping with previous asbestos exposure' mean [please. I am not aware of asbestos exposure, however, memory not so good.

Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Yes, asbestos exposure can cause lung disease.
This is known as asbestosis. It affects lower lobes more than upper lobes.
It also deposit in pleura and cause pleural calcification and fibrosis.
So your lung findings are typical of asbestosis.
It is due to prolonged exposure to asbestos dust.It is mostly workplace related exposure.
These changes are irreversible.
We can only halt the progression.
So first step is to change the work place.
Get done PFT ( pulmonary function test ) to know the severity of functional damage of lungs. And according to PFT report, you may need inhaled bronchodilators.
Also vaccinate yourself with adult respiratory vaccines like pneumococcal and influenza to prevent future respiratory tract infection.
