Can Bacterial Vaginosis Cause Delayed Periods?

hello so normally my period would last 7 days and my bf and i had sex on the 8th day. I’ve been spotting for 2weeks after. So i went to my gynecologist and had a pap smear. She told me to drink 2 capsules of azithromycin. After a week I went back and she prescribed neopenotran forte for my BV. So im taking it now for 7 days and im on the 4th day of taking it. I havent had my period since. and its the 49th day already. Is the delay in my menstraution because of the infection?

Hello,

You have been suffering from bacterial vaginosis, presently you are having delayed periods. Bacterial vaginosis may cause a small amount of bleeding or spotting, there doesn't seem to be any clear evidence that BV can affect your periods. You have taken azithromycin prescribed by your treating doctor. Some medicines do affect periods and may cause delayed periods.

Menstruation delay is reported only by a few people who took Azithromycin. There is not much evidence. Since you are sexually active, you are suggested to get clinically examined by a Gynae, get per vaginal examination done to detect bulky uterus. You may take urine test for detecting pregnancy with the first morning, mid stream urine. You may need to get USG (uterus and fallopian tubes) done to detect pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy. Get examined, get managed at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
