Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My sister just had surgery to remove part of her intestine (due to a polyp) and several lymph nodes from the nearby area, they ended up removing her kidney as well as it was not working properly because of a blockage. While on surgery they saw a few black tiny dots on her liver but they didn't touch that at all. I have to note, it's the second time she's having surgery because of a polyp in her intestine, she had the first one almost 3 years ago and she's had 3 rounds of chemo since, she's only just finished the last round about a month ago. Could you please let me know what are the chances of the black dots on liver to be cancerous as well?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
It is good that they didnt touch these since in most cases this is not necessary.
In most cases these spots are benign growths such as cysts, hamartomas or hemangiomas. Hemangioma is very small and this cant cause such symptoms unless larger than 10cm.
However she should do MRI scn or liver biopsy to find what type of lesion it is. Less common this may be malignant issues such as hepatocellular carcinoma . His abdominal pain may not be related to liver spots at all. It may always be sign of some other issues such as IBD or gastritis. If these are just simple liver cysts then I dont think this is causing his symptoms. I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
