Hi. This is the case where nothing is for sure and the patient's complaints can be vague and the opinions of all the Doctors may differ. I would advise you to put in the complaints in a full as the proper history is most diagnostic in almost all the patients. If your Doctor has suggested for increased bone, then it is the stylohyoid syndrome he must be thinking of. I would advise you the following: MRI of the whole pharynx to get the proper diagnosis and to follow the treatment accordingly. Addition of Tegritol and Gabapentin is suggestive of a Neurological problem and can be added on by a psychological issues as you have correctly noted. A second opinion of a Neurologist and a Psychiatrist if needed can be sought.
