Can Bowel Obstruction Cause Pulmonary Complications ?

having heartburn after bowel obstruction (past history) and have lupus - suspect inflammation of lining of lungs - because of fluid buildup. Do you see a connection? Have bee told there is a small amount of fluid in right bottom of lung, and that heart is enlarged. This from a Chest X-Ray?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Obstruction of bowel can cause rise in abdominal pressure.
This can sometimes cause transudative pleural effusion (fluid surrounding lungs).
But possibility of this is very less.
You are also having enlarged heart on chest x ray.
So possibility of cardiac disease is high in your case.
And this can cause pleural effusion on right side.
So in my opinion, you should get done
1. 2d echo to rule out cardiac diseases.
2. Ultrasound examination of abdomen to rule out abdominal cause.
So better to first diagnose cause of right sided pleural effusion, then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
