I am a 56 yr old male ,I was bicycling a 100 mile ride last Sat. The first time in 5 years in the last half of the ride around mile60 to 75 my pulse would not drop below 150 I stop had water and about 6-8 oz of my friends coke the next part of the ride was just as hard but my pulse would not go above 140-145 for the rest of the ride and I finished stronger,??? Could caffeine cause my pluse to lower and stay down for the last 25 miles
Hi welcome to HCM. Caffeine is not associated with lowered heart rate in your case.Since you have a significant physical activity in the form of cycling 100 miles, this can elevate the intrinsic vagal activity that can lower the heart rate. This need not be treated unless and until associated with symptoms.Drugs like Beta Blockers can be be used in reducing the heart rate.Consult your cardiologist for further queries. Thank you
