Can Cancer Medication Cause Bleeding Sores On Limbs?
my mom 93 is on tamoxafen for breast cancer , has recently developed bleeding scabby sores on legs and arms , she puts plasters on because of bleeding but seem to be spreading . could this be linked to the tablets or the cancer . we are concirned as they only started to appear within the last few weeks , been on tablets for approx 18 months . thank you . Peter
not very common on TAMOXIFEN, which is a hormonal treatment that starves the cancer and doesn't have much toxicity. ALL OTHER CANCER treatments are very likely to do this. radiation acts like a very bad sunburn and the effects can occur a while (weeks, mmmonths) after the radiation treatment has stopped. Regular chemotherapy kills cells and thins skin. It is unlikley but many drugs can affect the blood being able to be made (bone marrow suppression) and the liver being able to make proteins to stop bleeding. But .. being 93 can also do all of these. Best of luck, and living years with breast cancer to age 93 is doing better than most of us will. Simple tests of the blood cells and clotting ability (under 50 dollars full price in the US at non-discount) will determine what is going on.
