Can Change In Altitude Stop The Menstrual Cycles ?

I haven t had a menstrual cycle in ten months. I figured I had gone through the change of life. Last week, I flew to San Diego, California from NM. Someone told me that is normal and due to the change in the altitude. Have you ever heard of this before? Thanks, Janet

Hello,

Yes, high altitude can affect menstrual cycles. Periods may become shorter or longer or irregular due to hormonal changes. Yet, this occurs with very high altitudes and over a period of time and period usually doesn't stop. You mentioned that you flew only last week but you haven't had a menstrual cycle in last 10 months which is not normal. Consult a gynecologist and get examined clinically and any tests If necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
