Can Chewing Gums Cause Bumps Inside The Mouth?

Hi, I have just discovered a number of small bumps on my daughter's tongue. They do not cause any discomfort to her at the moment. She is perfectly normal with no fever. She said she discovered those bumps after chewing doublemint gums. Could those bumps be an allegic reaction to the gums?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the most common causes of small bumps over the tongue can be slightly inflamed or enlarged tongue papillae that contains taste buds leading to TRANSIENT LINGUAL PAPPILITIS..
They can occur due to causes like burning with hot foods and excess intake of chillies, gargling with concentrated solution of mouthwashes, allergic reaction, dry mouth, nutritional deficiency etc..

Other causes can be viral infection [herpes] etc..

But in case of your daughter, it does not seems to be infection or anything serious..
I would suggest that she should start doing warm saline gargles..
She can take a multivitamin tablet daily for a week..
She can suck ice and do cool water rinses..
Avoid taking very hot and spicy food..
If she use mouthwash to gargle, then she should dilute with with water..
In case of no resolution or worsening of symptoms consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated,,

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
