Can Cold Weather Trigger Tachycardia And Lower Blood Pressure?
Hi, I have Bradycardia Tachycardia and Right Bundle branch block. I walked around a small town twice in a week and both times become tachycardic (about 170) which lasts until about 15 mins after being home. The first time I went to hospital and had put it down to the fact I drank an iced coffee while out (I am sensitive to caffeine). It happened again today and this time I just warmed myself up and didnt call for help, it went away within the same amount of time. Q, Can cold weather trigger tachycardia and lower blood pressure?
A heart rate of 170 bpm is not normal and should be evaluated. Cold weather does not generally cause such things but excess caffeine can cause it.
If this happens again kindly get a ECG done soon at the time of palpitation to rule out the cause and for further management. Also get a 2D echo done to rule out any underlying cardiac disease.
For such patient we generally start on Tablet Diltiazem.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
