Can Conceiving While Having Beal's Syndrome Cause The Child To Have The Same Illness?
Hello. I have Beals syndrome. My spine was fused at the age of 5 and I am now 30. Am I able to conceive a baby and if so what is the percentage of my baby having beals? Can I test to see if the baby would have it when conceived? Thanks a lot.
Beals syndrome is an autosomal dominant genetic disorder. It is characterized by abnormal contractures. The chance of your offspring getting Beals disease would be 50%. Molecular diagnosis antenatally is possible. You will be given genetic counseling. An ultrasound scan would demonstrate joint contractures and hypokinesia or limited mobility is suspected cases during fetal stage.
Thus, yes, there is fair probability that your offspring can get the disorder but there is very high probability of its detection in the fetus by molecular genetic methods as well as ultrasound imaging.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
