Can Cough Syrup Relieve Sound From Throat Irritation Followed By Cough?

Hello doctor..my father is of 84 years old and suffering . He is on the bed . He is advised by a local doc zygma tablets. He is sleepy all the time.He is always breathing with his mouth . And now a days he makes some sound as if his throat is irritated. And coughs later. Can we give him a cough syrup?

Yes we can give him cough syrup. If it's white colored sputum then we should give him anti tussive ie cough suppressant syrup and if it's yellow colored than give expectorant syrup.....either of them as 10 ml thrice a day.
