Can Cyst In Left Kidney Lead To Cancer?

2 yrs ago i got a ct scan which revealed i had a cyst in my left kidney..i went to a clinic the doctor said it was to small to be anything serious..but lately ive been having pains in my left side again..i looked up kidney cyst and found out they may turn into cancer...how can i get checked to see if it got bigger or if its cancer..family has history of cancer how can i get checked for that?

Cyst in kidneys are usually present from birth. They usually do not cause any problem. They neither cause any functional problem. very rarely they may turn into cancer. What i am concerned about is sometimes it may increase in size and cause obstruction to collecting system of kidney. If you are having pain then you should get a Xray KUB and USG abdomen done. If the size of cyst remain same you can relax.

hi Cysts in the kidneys if they are increasing in size should be taken seriously.Please show to a kidney specialist who will advise a Ct scan with contrast to find the type of cyst and other urine and blood tests to ascertain your status.Then only, we can decide on the treatment needed for you.Hope it answers your query
