Can Degenerative Disc Disease Cause Muscle Ache In The Lower Back?
In 2001 I had a spinal X-ray showing L3 degenerative disc disease. I recently last week had another x-ray and am waiting for the results. Could my condition of aching and muscle spasm be associated with continued disc degeneration in the L3 lumbar region ? YYYY@YYYY Thank you.
Disc degeneration is known cause for back pain due to weakened joint between vertebra and instability. Diagnosis degenerative changes leads to loss of disc height and as a result bond between two vertebra becomes weak. this leads to muscle spasm to prevent increased mobility between vertebra.
X-ray will confirm diagnosis. Treatment is use of lumbo sacral belt and tablet Ultracet twice a day. Visit to orthopedic surgeon nearby your area for detailed clinical examination is recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Jayesh Vaza, Orthopaedic Surgeo
