Can Duodenal Ulcer Lead To Pain In Right Rib Cage And Acid Reflux?
Pain in right rib cage and acid reflux. Normal liver enzymes and normal ultra sound. Some mild back pain in same area as ribs. Pain comes and goes feels better when I change positions. Doctor said she thinks it's a duodenal ulcer should I be concerned ?
Hi, Thanks for posting your query. I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.
Duodenal ulcer usually cause pain in the upper abdomen and not over the rib cage area. Pain over the right rib cage area can occur due to other causes like acid reflux, muscular/rib junction pain and lung related issues.
If it is due to acid reflux, then taking omeprazole would provide relief. If it is associated with cough, then chest xray should be taken to look for lung issues. If its is due to muscular/rib junction pain, then pressure over that area or physical and coughing would worsen the pain. Painkillers would provide relief in this case.
I hope that answers your question. Regards, Dr.R.K
