Can Easy Bruising And Fracture On The Foot Be Due To Bone Loss?
So I fell and my foot started to swell I could walk but not very well and with pain. I went to a fast pace emergency care and they x rayed my foot and told me I fractured it near the right side by my toes, and I twisted my ankle. They gave me a shoe that is too big. I was wondering should I get a second opinion? it hurts to put weight on it, and there is bad bruising near my 3rd and 4th toe. I also was wondering, I currently have severe bulimia now and for the last 3 years, I was wondering if the easy hurt and the fracture could be from bone lost?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
For foot fracture below knee, slab strict limb elevation on two pillows and nil weight bearing on involved foot is needed. Fracture needs time to heal and this may take time from 4 to 6 weeks. Till then protection in slab is required. Cause of fracture may be due to osteoporosis, which is decrease in bone mass. Treatment for both type of fractures, whether traumatic or due to osteoporosis, is same. Please do not take weight on involved foot. You may use walker or crutches for support while walking.
Hope this is useful.
