Hi Dr, everytime i cough, there is a dull pain in my testicles. I was recently diagnosed with Bronchites, and there was a whole lot of coughing involved...alot! It feels as if the testicles pull up eveytime i cough? can the excessive coughing result in testicular pain?
Hi. Noted your history and understood your concerns. The pain in the testicles on coughing is suggestive that your cremaster muscles are overactive or there is a possibility of varicocele that gets distended. Yes excessive coughing can cause pain in the testicles. As you have noted properly that the testicles get elevated or pulled up during coughing. This is due to the fact that the cremaster muscle which supports hanging of hte testicles is continuation of the lower abdominal muscles and contraction of these will retract the testes up and while doing so they get spiral movement to go into partial torsion causing pain.
Treatment is obviously the control of coughing and treat the bronchitis. If required one may need fixing of the testes.
