Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Extra Skin In Corners Of Mouth Be A Reason For Delayed Speech In A Child?
My son, who is just turning 2, has extra skin on the inside of his mouth corners. What is this? It doesn't seem to hurt him but I've never seen something like this, nor can I find anything about this upon searching internet. May I add, he recently had surgery. We found he was tongue and lip tied. He is also speech delayed and eats very little finger foods, just chicken fingers for the most part and potato chips. Just wondering if this all ties into something greater. I really want to know what this extra skin is.
Anything in the mouth area could potentially contribute to speech delay. However, I would want to make sure that your son is otherwise cognitively appropriate before I made that determination. I recommend staying in close contact with your doctor about this. It may take a little time, but it will be figured out and treated.
