Can Frequent Exposure To Aerosol Sprays Cause Harm?
I work in a nursing home and have noticed that myself and my colleagues are exposed to aerosol sprays every morning, and within a small space i.e. en-suite toilets. I often find myself coughing after spraying our clients with particular brands of deodorant and have noticed that many of my colleagues cough as well. Normally we just laugh about it but I worry that those particular brands of deodorant are messing with our health and more specifically our lungs. I have tried to hint to those in charge of purchasing toiletries i.e our manager, that Body Sprays are better (and all that is needed in this instance) than Deodorants or Anti-perspirants but as I don t have enough knowledge about their chemical content I cannot submit a reasonable complaint about the harm that I feel these products are having on my colleaugues and myself. My question is why do cans labelled deodorant or anti-perspirant make people cough and what is the long-term health risk of using them?
Any sort of aerosol spray is harmful for the upper airway and lower airway. It can cause chemical pneumonitis or allergic bronchitis or rhino-pharyngitis or allergic inflammation of the airway. Its always better to avoid this spray. Always wash your mouth or gargle with plain water after having exposed to such spray. Drink more water. You can use Nasoclear nose drop or saline spray to keep your nose healthy. Take proper steam inhalation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
