Can Gaining Weight Be Caused By Kidney Infection?

I went to the Doc. and was told I have a kidney infection. I'm not sure how long I have had it but my lower back has hurt for a couple of months and I have put on a lot of weight even though I am not eating much. I am 67 and did fall at a store one day. That is when my back started hurting and I put it off to the fall. It never went away so I went to the Doc. about 1 wk ago and that is when she told me of my infection. My question is this week I put on another 5 pounds and wonder if they are connected or should I be looking at a different problem.
