Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a glut medius tear from too much golf and also osteoarthritis of the hip as shown in an MRI. I believe my pain is mainly from the glut tear since I have had severe osteoarthritis for 4 years and have not felt a thing and ski 5 days a week and golf all summer. Question will the glut tear heal by itself and if so what is recommended i.e. exercise or therapy
Hello, I have studied your case and I can assure you that these tears of Gluteus medius can heal by its own only if they are incomplete tears with few intact fibers. because intact fibers do not allow retraction of the tendon. So if your MRI is showing incomplete tear than you can safely continue with physiotherapy. Avoid any vigorous exercises. If it is a complete tear than I am afraid you need to get it repaired. It will not going to heal by its own. I hope these steps will help you. Let me know if there is any other followup questions. Thanks
