Can Growth Spurts Cause Adolescents To Sleep More?

I have a son who is almost 12 years old. He has been sleeping a little longer than usual and I wonder if that would indicate a growth spurt or if it helps with growth spurts in adolescents. He is a small framed boy and looks considerably younger than his age.
