Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
Certainly, one can get herpes infection through kissing and through genital contact. These are the 2 most common routes of transmission of herpes virus. The virus usually gets transmitted through either direct mucosal contact (kissing or oro-genital sex) Or by coming in contact with abraded surfaces (peno-vaginal sex). The chances of getting infected are more in the presence of an active episode of herpes. Infection can occur even otherwise, without a clinically obvious episode of herpes in the sexual partner; the virus is being shed asymptomatically from the infected mucosal surfaces from time to time. Clinically herpes usually presents as grouped discrete fluid filled vesicles or erosions. Dry mouth and and eyes are not usually part of an episode of herpes. If you have any doubt that you may have acquired herpes from your sexual partner you may get a blood test for herpes.
