I have been diagnosed with hydrasalphinx on my left tube. I have had 2 ruptured ovarian cysts surgeries on that tube. both surgeries have been through a c section type cut. on july 9 I went in to have my tube removed via laparoscope. the dr said he couldn t remove it because there were too many and too thick adhesions on the tube. I am now scheduled to have a laparotomy I guess another c section type cut to remove my tube. My question is, is this a normal procedure? can the tube be leaking inside me. if it is leaking what is the fluid doing to my body? can the hydrasalphinx cause my period to be irregular (my cycle is anywhere from 20-60 days for the last year)
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Hydrosalpinx is collection of fluid in fallopian tube it can be due to infection if pus is collected that is called pyosalpinx. Usually the fluid will be collected within the fallopian tube and may not come out, if the fluid comes out and falls in the abdomen usually that will be absorbed by the immune system of the body, sometimes when the infection is severe that can lead to adhesions. Usually, hydrosalpinx itself may not lead to irregular periods but if infection affects the ovaries also orif there is any associated hormonal imbalance, general causes like anemia, thyroid abnormality etc can lead to irregular periods. As you have undergone surgery on ovaries, if part of ovaries are removed during the surgery, the function of the ovaries can get affected and that can affect the menstrual cycles.
