Can Hydroxyzine And Promethazine-dm Use Together?

Can my child combine hydroxyzine and promethazine-dm? She takes the 1st for itching associated with eczema but also has a serious cough and has taken the 2nd medication in the past. But she has never taken them together. She was just given the hydroxyzine 30 min ago and her cough is very persistent right now and I was wondering if I could give her the promethazine-dm? Both state they may cause dizziness.

Hello. It is not advisable to combine Hydroxyzine and Promethazine because both drugs are antihistamines and taking them together may cause dizziness, drowsiness and even (just a few times) arrhythmias. Your doctor should prescribe to his son another more appropriate syrup cough.
I wish you good health.
