Hi, I am 31 years old. My wife is 29 years old. Me and my wife are trying for baby for about 1 year now without any protective measures. When approached Gyneocologist and they found that my thyroxine level is low and have prescribed to take Thyroxine 100 ug for 2 months. In parallel, we did the semen analysis also at a Urology center. They have prescribed Ciprofloxacin 500mg for 14 days-2 dosage each day.
Our worry is whether the hypothyrodism is causing issue in low fertility and motility or the infection in semen (for suggesting to take Ciprofloxacin) is the main problem now?
Is hypothyrodism resolved with the intake of Ciprofloxacin or are both different issues? Please clarify.

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Siddartha's Response
Hello,
Infertility has so many causes. Of them, hypothyroidism is one of the least causes ( particularly in men and not in women). Usually in hypothyroidism prolactin levels will be high, and it may cause fertility issues. To treat it take the regular and prescribed dose of thyroxin.
Second issue presence of pus cells in the semen (done at urology center), might be the reason for prescription of antibiotics by the urologist. In the query, you didn't mention about the hormonal status of your wife as she might also have fertility issues.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Siddartha
