Can I Continue Pregnancy After Taking Cytotec For Abortion?

i took cytotec just 3 tablets when im about 3 months almost but one day bleeding only 6 hrs with 2 blood cloth then it stop.......now i continue pregnancy but im afraid if baby is ok already got ultrasound it says baby is moving but not yet confirm if normal im afraid to go check-up for ob-gyne i want to continue now my baby im so afraid .what shall i do.....

Hallow Dear,

Cytotec is Misoprostol which is used for termination of pregnancy. Usually this medicine is taken after Tab. Mifepristone. They are suitable and safe for termination of pregnancy up to 9 weeks of gestation. You have taken it at 3 months when 3 tablets of only Cytotec is not a sufficient dose; hence the medicine has failed in terminating the pregnancy.

Cytotec or Misoprostol causes developmental abnormalities in the baby. Hence if it fails to terminate the pregnancy by any reason, the decision of termination of pregnancy should not be reverted to continuation of pregnancy.

Please report to your Obstetrician and get the pregnancy terminated by suitable method. Since you are more than 12 weeks pregnant,you may have to get admitted in the hospital for termination of pregnancy. According to WHO guidelines, you will need Tab. Mifepristone followed after 36-48 hours by Misoprostol in higher dosage. Taking these medicines at such advanced pregnancy at home carries a risk; hence they are given in health facility only.

Please report to your Obstetrician ASAP. If you are in India, termination of pregnancy after 20 weeks gestation is illegal.
