Can I Get Pregnant Post Unprotected Sex Despite Missing A Birth Control Pill?

On Monday, 5 days ago, according to a 28 day cycle, my period was supposed to start. My period is now 5 days days late. I also had protected (condom) sex on Monday.

I am currently on birth control pills (Sprintec). However, for the past 3 months I have been off schedule. I forgot to take the pill the same time everyday or sometimes I accidentally skip a day or two. Last month, I was so off schedule that I accidentally skipped the inactive pills and continued through this month with active pills. Today, I'm still on the active pills.

Yesterday, I took a home pregnancy test (First Response) in the afternoon. It came out negative. However, I'm still worried about the possibility of being pregnant. I have been experiencing cramps and pain in left abdomen. No nausea or sickness.

Could I be pregnant?

HI,
I understand your concern.
The problem you are facing is due to taking active pills continuously over 2 cycles. Actually inactive pills are meant for giving a break in hormonal intake so as to get a withdrawal bleeding ( or menses).
The symptoms of sickness, nausea, cramps are due to side effect of prolonged intake of active pills.
* Now you should stop the active pills..discontinue/ discard the pack of pills.Wait for 8 days you will start bleeding. Consult your doctor on 5th day of cycle & start with a fresh pack on 5th day.
* Please use contraceptive ( barrier method ) these days .
* Please remember to strictly follow the instructions if you continue with oral pills OR get IUD inserted & remain carefree about contraception.
Thanks.
