Can I Give Cypon Syrup To Increase Appetite Of A 1 Year Old?
Sir, my 1.5 year boy is not eating well and sleeping adequately. He is a preterm kid born at 32 weeks. My friends are suggesting cypon syrup to increase apetite and sleep, which they have benefited with by giving it to their kids. Can i use this syrup for my kid too?
hello there, thanks for your query, yes you can use it in a dose of 0.25mg/kg/day. Can be taken with or without food. Half hour before food is advised as a appetizer. The cypon syrup contains 2mg/5ml of cyproheptidine. Only care you should take is to avoid the drug if child has asthma, glaucoma or allergy to the drug itself. Sometimes it may cause sedation due to its anti-histaminic/anti-allergic action Watch out for any rash, rapid heart beat, pallor after medication so as to pick up the anaphylaxis early which is of rare occurrence. Along with this make sure that you have reduced breast feeding, give cows milk just one or two times a day, do not give junk food, avoid biscuits, chips, bread etc so that he will have improved appetite. Feel free to ask any query, anytime . Thanks.
