Can I Have Beer After A Recent Hysterectomy?

I had a hysterectomy on Monday. Not feeling a whole lot of pain, just very tender. It was robotic. Have pain meds but not taking them. Only using PS Ibuprophen. My question is I want to enjoy a beer tonight with the family for Thanksgiving festivities. Am I ok to do this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Taking alcohol in the form of either wine or beer can sometimes dehydrate the body, increases the endocrine stress response, reduces blood coagulation resulting in bleeding and slowing the wound healing processes. Also, you are on pain killers, so it is better to avoid having alcohol for at least two weeks before and after surgery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
