Hi Doctor, I have missed periods from 3 months and negative pregnancy result. I visited a doctor, they did blood and urine test, resulted negative. Doctor suggested Duphaston for a week to get periods and Folivit after periods for 3 months. And I came to know that duphaston is suggested during pregnancy. But ,I used it to get periods. Please clarify my doubt.

You are suffering from secondary amenorrhoea. This may be due to a lot of conditions causing hormonal imbalance of your body including pregnancy.
Progesterone is very important hormone to maintain regular menstrual cycle as well as normal growth of womb in uterus. Duphaston contains dydrogesterone which is a progesterone in nature.
The body produces progesterone at certain times of the menstrual cycle, causing the womb lining to flourish. If a fertilized egg does not attach to the womb lining by the end of the monthly menstrual cycle, the levels of progesterone in the body decrease. This causes the body to shed the womb lining (a menstrual ‘period’).
If a fertilized egg successfully attaches to the womb lining by the end of the monthly cycle, progesterone levels in the body remain high. This helps maintain a healthy womb lining for the ongoing pregnancy. If progesterone level gets low at this stage it may lead to early week abortion. So progesterone supplement is necessary in that case.
As dydrogesterone helps regulate the healthy growth and normal shedding of the womb lining, it may be used in the treatment of menstrual disorders such as absent, irregular or painful menstrual periods. When estradiol levels are also found to be low, dydrogesterone treatment is more effective when supplemented with estrogens to treat amenorrhea.
