Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a stroke about 1 month ago and doctor prescribe zoloft, but wasn t feeling any better then my GP prescribed pritiq at 50mg still was not doing well after several weeks, she just increased to 100mg. My Neurologist is not aware of the change from zoloft to pristiq. I ve read that pristiq is not good for somone who has had a stroke, can you discuss.
Hi & Welcome. Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) is a Serotonin Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (SNRI) used in the treatment of major depressive disorder. Its use is associated with drowsiness, syncope, blurred vision, confusion, decreased concentration, decreased coordination, dystonias and convulsion. Since you had a stroke one month ago, use of this medication is thus not safe. You are therefore advised to consult your treating neurologist to prescribe an alternate but a safer medication for depression since Zoloft does not appear to be effective in your case. Hope this will help you.
