Can Imbalance In Diet Cause Occasional Swelling Of Fingers And Ankles?
my fingers and ankles swell on occasion. I believe it may be from my diet. I try to eat healthy but sometimes I cant. My fingers will also peel after the swelling which lasts a couple days. This has been going on for 2 years. I don t have health insurance and can usually work through it. Any ideas?
Walk 150 minutes per week, or about 7 days per week
Lower sodium to 1 tsp of table salt (sodium chloride) per day or 2300 mg sodium, (check the labels out, you may be surprised) and cut the SUGAR out. Even high glycemic carbohydrates will cause some women to suck up water and display it as edema.
When this happens, put your feet up and drink water a glass of water. Hopefully, you will the swelling go down.
Follow the guidelines in the DASH diet and cut the Sugar out and carbohydrates down. Measure your blood pressure whenever you get a chance and keep a log of it. Normal blood pressure is 120/80. If it reaches >140 systolic (top) or 90 (diastolic) bottom, please see a doctor.
I am sorry about your insurance situation. If you need more nutritional guidance you can come back and see me through the specialty portal. I truly hope the guidelines I set help some. Kathryn Shattler, MS,RDN
