Can Infection Be Contracted Easily While On Chemotherapy For Lung Cancer?

Thank you in advance. My 87 year old mom has been diagnosed with 4th stage lung cancer and after 2 weeks of questions and soul-searching, has decided to try the chemo treatments. My sister and I will be the care givers at home. Daddy, also 87, has dementia and does not remember short term. Will my sister and myself be able to stay in the home to care for mom? Will other family members be able to visit? (I m thinking about any unnecessary germs being transmitted to mom.)

Hi

Your mom is suffering from stage 4 lung cancer.

Aim of treatment during this stage is palliative chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy causes the immune system of our body to weaken and germs may attack the body easily.

I will advise to admit your mom in a hospital and when family members visit they should wear a mask to cover their nose.

Regards
