Can Insulin Be Given If Sugar Level Is 83?
My 72 yr old mother is a type 2 diabetic on dialysis. She tested 83 before breakfast this am and now tested 260 two hours after eating. She was recently released from an assisted living facility where the gave her 8 units of insulin every am. I didn t give her insulin this am since her sugars were 83. Do I give her insulin now or wait till tomorrow morning? She wanted to snack but I told her no more good tonight.

FBS of 83 is good. Giving 6 units of short acting analogue insulin will be safe. Ask her to eat immediately say within 10-15minutes. It would be ideal to check her blood sugars and dose insulin accordingly.
