Can Insulin Dependent Diabetic Experience Bloating And How Can It Be Treated?
My daughter is an insulin diabetic and 23 years of age. She has been on insulin for the past 6 years. She has begun suffering from bloating a couple of weeks every two months. We have been told by the pharmacists that this sometimes occurs with the insulin dependent diabetic. How can this be treated?
Before running into such conclusion, GI and uro-genital problems should be excluded. Therefore, I'd suggest to: - do urine analysis - vaginal swab testing - abdominal ultrasound - culture of feces for candida (if she is also having changes in bowel movements)
I'd also ask that in case your daughter is having stomach pain, burning, then should also be treated for gastritis.
if the bloating is only a couple of weeks every two months; I'd suggest to closely monitor if the bloating is also related to pre-menstrual syndrome.
If nothing will results by the tests, then, most probably due to insulin. In such cases, advise her to eat often, small portions, slowly, without rushing and to avoid gas-forming foods.
She might take simethicone for the bloating together with more physical activity.
