Can Intake Of White Wine With Spiriva Cause Breathlessness?
I take Spiriva when needed and after celbrating Canadian Thanksgiving dinner with my family we all went out to our local club where I had three glasses SMALL of white wine I felt quite breathless and not well at all so came home and was worse, breathing was very difficult . I did take Spiriva while dressignt to go out as after spending most of my morning/afternoon in the kitchen I did feel a little breahless due to all the exertion I belive so would the white wine have any affect on the Spiriva which I normally take in the morning.
Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query. I understand your concern. There is no recognized interaction between Spiriva and white wine. It is possible that some thing that you ate or drank would have provoked bronchial constriction and you felt breathlessness. If you have a peak flow meter, it would have shown that your peak flow is reduced. In such situations, you can use a short acting bronchodilator to relieve your symptoms. If it does not and your peak flow rate (PFR) is in the dangerous range, you should go to the ER. If you have further queries for me, you would find me at the HCM web site. Take Care Dr Noble Zachariah
