Can Labor Be Induced If Suffering From Pregnancy Induced Hypertension?

I am 37 weeks pregnant today with pregnancy-induced hypertension diagnosed at 35 weeks. Would it be a bad idea to ask the doctor to induce 1 week from tomorrow (38 weeks 1 day) to get off of bedrest? NSTs and biophysicals every 3 days show baby is healthy and thriving.

Thank you for the question and thank you for visiting our site.

PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension) is very common and is differentiated from preeclampsia by the absence of a measurable amount of protein in the urine and the absence of other organ involvement (kidneys, liver, nervous system and placenta). The American College of OB/GYN's (ACOG) suggests that in women with PIH that delivery can happen anytime after 37 weeks. So yes, it would be appropriate to deliver you at 38 1/7 wks.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
