I'm 62 yrs old. Had cataract removal with lens implant done in both eyes this past March. Six months later (September) had a yag laser procedure done , was told this is sometimes required. On my three month follow up visit I was told that there is now a thinning of the retina in my left eye. The doctor wrote on my paper work it was aquired, and if I suddenly notice beginning loss of vision. to come to his office immediately because I will require surgery to keep from loosing sight in that eye. My question is- since I was examined by two eye specialist before the cataract surgery and was never told I had that problem, could the thinning of the retina happen as a result of the cataract removal or the laser treatment that was done afterwards?
thinning of retina is not related to cataract.this is generally not a pre operative examination requirement.it is not under stood how to measure thickness of retina. twill recomand an examination at some other hospital for second opinion.
