Can Mederma Cream Be Used For Scars On Face From A Bruising?

hi Doctor , i have a mark on the face, 4 years back i got hurt on my face due to a small iron pice that caused me a mark on my cheek i had no stitches but there is a thin line formed in my face and it looks like a bubble or water formed inside it, due to this i cannot shave reason being the mark is very clear and it so embarasing because it shows some one it me with a knife on my face, i have used mederma cream it irritates me a lot so stopped using, please suggest me the remedies to get rid of it, or if i need to go for a surgery how much would it cost me and would it be effective, awaiting for your reply ASAP, thank have a good day.

Hi. Welcome to Healthcaremagic.

Seems to be a raised scar / hypertrophic scar.

If I was your treating doctor I would have asked you to use a silicone/polysloxane containing gel twice daily for a few months. It helps to flatten the scar, decreases redness and makes it less noticeable but it wont eliminate it completely. It would just improve the cosmetic appearance of the scar.

I would advice that you also take an opinion from a plastic surgeon regarding scar revision. Changing the orientation and width of a scar by surgery can also be done to make it better looking, cosmetically.
