Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I think I may have bacterial vaginosis, I went to a sexual health clinic today but was told I have to go to a different one and make an appointment tomorrow as they only deal with contraception. I was given a vaginal tablet usually used to treat thrush, will this have any effect if it is bv that I have?
Bacterial vaginosis is caused by a bacteria whereas thrush is caused by fungi. So, the treatment for both are different which could be given either as oral tablet or vaginal tablet. Thrush presents with curdy white discharge and the treatment of it alone will not have effect on bacterial vaginosis which presents by green color discharge and fishy odour. However, these two can differentiated by a simple lab test with a microscope. I guess, your doctor would have considered these difference and would have had given you the right treatment. If you are still in doubt, ask your doctor to do the lab test and get it confirmed. I wish you a speedy recovery, If you have any doubt don't be hesitant to ask me. I am here to help you.
