Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear Raghavendra
i can understand your concern.
I am very happy you are this conscientious because having a well controlled blood sugar is very important in preventing the onset of diabetic complications.
your diabetes is very good control and your doctor gave you a very good advise.
the medication diamicron is a kind of medication which stimulates your pancreas and produces more insulin.this kind of medications will cause secondary pancreatic failure due to over usage. This might be the reason for your low sugars in night time.

this melmet is called as metformin which is less potent than diamicron. This metfromin also having many other benefits like
1.weight reduction
2.protection of pancreas from over use damage
3,reduce fatty liver
4.protection from cancers.
so i strongly support the decision of your doctor.
remember diet and exercise are very important in diabetes .
regards
