Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Can Mesh Used For Bladder Repair Be Removed Safely In The Elderly?
Mesh was used in bladder repair in 2012. Have never had a day without discomfort since then. Am now having pain (severe at times) from a growth in vaginal area near bartholin gland. Urologist said it may be mesh now coming out of bladder. Mesh can be removed but would be difficult for a person my age (91 y/o). Does not want to do so surgically if I can live with it but it is becoming more difficult. I don t want to go thru the surgery again either. Can anything else be done to relieve the discomfort (which comes and goes but always painful when I first sit down, and often all during day and quite often at night)? Will appreciate your opinion. Thank you so much.
HI Well come to HCM Thank for asking Your query being appreciated, if it is the pain of lower abdomen and radiating downward near the vagina so it may not be due the mesh but it could be due to something else and most common cause would be infection looking to your age it could be geriatric disease, but it is not the mesh or anything to do with bladder, such case need numbers of tests to reach up to the right diagnosis, but in my opinion infection needs to be given first try hope this information helps.
